Our Story
Rae Ceretto is a documentary filmmaker and storyteller. Her work and worldview are the foundation of Sun Rae, a jewelry brand that weaves global stories into wearable art. Rae has had a lifelong fascination with jewelry. Not just for its beauty, but for the stories each piece carries. From a scarab necklace found in Egypt to a locket engraved in Serbia, she sees jewelry as memory, identity, and expression.
As a documentary filmmaker, Rae spent years capturing human stories across the globe, from post-war Serbia to refugee communities in Uganda. Her calling has always been rooted in honoring culture and storytelling through lived experience and deep connection.
That same spirit lives at the heart of Sun Rae. Built on relationships formed over time with artisans and craftspeople around the world, the jewelry is not just “inspired by” culture, it is immersed in it. Each collection begins with a place, shaped by the hands and spirit of the people who call it home. Note From Rae
Jewelry has been at the forefront of my mind for as long as I can remember. As a child, I adorned every finger with rings and filled my ears with as many earrings as I could wear. Each piece carried a story—a scarab necklace from an Egyptian temple, a locket gifted to me by my family in Serbia. Jewelry was never just an accessory; it was a symbol of where I had been and who I had become.
As a documentarian, my work took me around the world, capturing cultures, and human stories. No matter where I landed, I was always drawn to the local artisans and markets—the first place I’d go whenever I had a free moment. Take me to the souks! I’d tell my fixer.
It was in these vibrant spaces that I found the soul of each place—the artisans, the craftsmanship, the traditions passed down through generations. Each piece I collected became a part of my journey, a reflection of the places I had seen and the people who had shaped my path.
Sun Rae was born from that same desire—to create jewelry that is more than an accessory, but a tangible connection to culture, craft, and one's own journey in life.
